The Music Minister serves 2 parishes as principal musician, organist, pianist, and choir director according to the highest professional standards established by the music profession. Must have a high degree of proficiency as attested to by formal credentials and a personal performance audition.
Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities:
1.
Provides service by playing the organ / piano for regular liturgical celebrations including 3 weekend Masses, Holy Days, Sacramental Celebrations, School Masses, weddings, funerals, and other special events requiring music.
a.
Weekend Masses: 5pm Saturday, 9am and 10:30am Sunday.
b.
School Masses every other Thursday during the school year
c.
Meet with couples to plan music for weddings.
d.
Choir rehearsals, trains, directs, and supervises adult and children’s choirs, instrumental and cantor.
2.
Create a dynamic and inspiring worship community.
a.
Introduces new music and encourages congregational participation.
b.
Actively participates in parish organizations including pastoral staff meetings.
c.
Participation in Family of Parishes’ parish wide liturgical celebrations such as Easter Vigil
d.
Coordinate and arrange for additional musicians such as brass instrumental for Easter and Christmas
e.
Must have appreciation of the Church’s liturgical tradition as well as current practice.
f.
All other duties as assigned by the pastor.
Education, Training and/or Experience:
1.
The qualifying degrees or credentials for professional status for Music Minister can be met in a variety of ways including:
a.
Master’s Level: A Master’s Degree in music performance or music education, or Associate’s Certificate (AAGO) in the American Guild of Organists
b.
Bachelor’s Level: A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music degree in music performance or music education or Colleague’s Certificate (CAGO) and the Choir Master’s Certificate (CMAGO) in the American Guild of Organists
c.
Private Study Level: Service Playing Certificate in the American Guild of Organists
2.
This position requires experience in parish liturgical music programs.
Working Environment:
1.
Regular weekend and evening work hours required.
2.
Must be fit for duty and ability to climb stairs to the choir loft.
3.
Must have knowledge of the Catholic faith, a willingness to work for a Catholic faith-based agency and adhere to the policies of St. Anthony Church and Church of the Holy Angels. DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION
Position Title: Director of Music
Status: Full time, Exempt, 12 months

II. PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION
The Director of Music serves the Riverview Catholic Family of Parishes as principal organist, cantor, and choir director at St. Rose of Lima Church according to the highest professional standards established by this profession.
III. POSITION CONTENT
A. MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND REGULAR ACTIVITIES
1. Provides service by playing and singing for regular parish liturgical celebrations, including weekend Masses (Saturday 7:00pm, Sunday 10:30am and 12:00pm), Holy Day Masses, weddings, and funerals
• Trains, directs, and supervises the ten-voice professional choir, instrumental ensembles, and cantors.
• Prepares assembly for liturgies through rehearsals prior to liturgies.
• Trains, directs, and supervises choirs, instrumental ensembles, and cantor programs.
2. Provides liturgical updating and education of the parish.
• Introduces new music from the tradition of the Church and encourages congregational participation where appropriate.
• Actively participates in parish leadership committees including pastoral staff, parish family worship commission, liturgy preparation groups, etc.
• Works closely with the Pastor and parish family Director of Worship when planning liturgies.
3. Maintains and develops personal and professional skills
• Attends in-service training opportunities.
• Continued dedication to personal practice and musical growth
• Maintenance and development of the choral music library, ensuring that all new entries are catalogued.
4. Maintains and develops budget for liturgical music and process bi-weekly payroll for all staff musicians
• Supervises and is accountable for licensing expenditures.
• Oversees budget for musicians and musical programming.
• Lead fundraising efforts for the music program.
5. Leads the St. Rose Music Society Steering Committee in programming and developing funds for the St. Rose Sacred Music Series
• Serve as the primary producer, development officer, and marketing manager for the music series.
• Cultivate new donors, steward existing donors, and solicit financial gifts, including major gifts.
• Maintain ticketing platform and donor management software.
6. Assist in the maintenance parish website and live streaming schedule
7. Cooperates with the liturgical music projects of the Deanery and or Archdiocese when feasible
IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
A. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGES AND/OR ABILITIES (SKAs)
• Must have a high degree of proficiency in playing the organ and in singing as attested to by formal credentials and a personal performance audition.
• Must have a working knowledge of instruments which may be used in liturgical music, including string instruments and brass.
• Must have exceptional skill as an effective choral conductor as demonstrated by formal credentials, audition, and rehearsal and performance video.
• Must maintain a knowledge and appreciation of the Church's liturgical tradition as well as current liturgical practice.
• Must have the ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.
• Must have a rich knowledge of quality repertoire available for a professional liturgical music program including sacred choral repertoire from the 14th through 21st centuries, organ repertoire, and liturgical and congregational music repertoire.
• Must have excellent pastoral and relationship skills to cultivate and nurture community within music ministry and among the parish.
• Should have a strong knowledge of computer skills, including Microsoft Office, website management, live streaming software, and various music engraving software, such as Finale or Sibelius as needed.
• Should have a working knowledge of sound equipment, including microphones and sound boards.
B.EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE

DescriptionSt Gabriel Parish (Glendale), a member of the Tri-County Catholics family of parishes, is seeking a full-time time assistant of music and liturgy.

Primary responsibilities are to play for the three weekend liturgies – Saturday at 5 p.m., Sunday at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. – and to conduct one weekly rehearsal with cantors and other musicians. Currently there is a small choir which sings for the Sunday 10 a.m. Mass. Plan and play funerals and weddings with the families. Training and development of liturgical ministers both at St. Gabriel and St. Michael (Sharonville) parishes.

The candidate must have proficiency in organ, piano and voice, with knowledge of the Catholic liturgy and good pastoral skills. The successful candidate is a team person, working with the staff members of the parish, as well as others in our family of parishes. Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

St. Gabriel has a 3 manual 6-rank Wicks pipe organ with Walker digital stops equivalent to 36-40 ranks. It was built in 2003. Both the organ and an upright piano are in the choir loft.

DescriptionPurpose: A church Choir Director is responsible for leading a choir in practice sessions and performances. · Two skilled organists/pianists

· One proficient guitarist

Expectations and Requirements:

· Availability:

o Ideal candidates will commit to performing at least twice per month.

o Organists/pianists may rotate on a monthly schedule based on availability.

o The guitarist will perform on the first and third Sundays of each month.

o Schedules will be coordinated among the musicians, pastor, and a church elder.

· Leadership Abilities:

o Musicians should feel confident leading congregational music either solo or with other musicians.

§ Our liturgical vocalist will aide in leading through singing.

· Repertoire Selection:

o Musicians will not be responsible for selecting congregational songs/hymns.

§ Selections will be provided two weeks in advance to accommodate planning.

o Musicians will choose music for preludes, postludes, offertories, and communion.

§ Titles of preludes, postludes, or additional music must be submitted to the office administrator one week prior to scheduled worship dates.

· Worship themes will also be provided two weeks in advance to aid in selecting appropriate music.

· Rehearsals:

o Rehearsals with the Liturgical Vocalist and other musicians will begin promptly at 9am on scheduled Sundays.

o Worship commences at 10:15am.

o Musicians needing access to the building, will be provided with keys for additional rehearsal time if desired.
